Easiest Online Bachelor Degree - featured image of laptop and notes
Contents

Are you looking for suggestions for the easiest online bachelor’s degrees?

Is an easy degree program going to meet your needs?

What sort of online bachelor’s degree program is best for you?

Read on!

In 13th-century Europe, the bachelor’s degree wasn’t the degree that we know today. Instead, it was a step toward the only degree recognized in European higher education – a master’s or doctorate. But even then, it had the hallmarks we associate with a modern bachelor’s degree. These included 3-4 years of studying prescribed texts, passing examinations, and the opportunity to achieve a degree of master’s or doctorate with further studies

Let’s break it down:

  • Most programs require students to complete the academic requirements for 120 semester credits or 180 quarter credits.
  • These credits translate to approximately 40 courses consisting of general education courses, core courses, electives, and internships/externships.
  • In a typical program, about 10-12 courses or 30-36 credits are in your major area of study.

Even with the significant cost challenge that getting a bachelor’s degree poses for American families, it’s still a widely popular goal. The bachelor’s degree, after all, is still the gold standard for entry into a wide range of professional careers.

In most cases, attendance in a professional graduate school requires a relevant bachelor’s degree. This is true for the fields of medicine, law, and education, among others.

Easiest Online Bachelor's Degrees - fact

Methodology

When we selected the easiest online bachelor’s degrees, each one was chosen for specific reasons. The liberal arts degree, for example, was chosen because of its generalist focus, an easier approach than a specialized field like nursing.

But just because a bachelor’s degree has been tagged as easy doesn’t mean that it’s an easy-easy program! Every program has its fair share of challenges and requires time, energy, and effort to complete. Even if your choice of a degree reflects your natural skills and aspirations, you must put in the hard work to succeed.

These 20 degrees were also chosen because students were provided with the flexibility and convenience of online learning. These are easier to schedule, thanks to rolling admissions, asynchronous classes, and customized coursework. Students can take on as little or as many credits as their finances, schedules, and preferences allow them.

Adult learners, degree completers, and working professionals will find these online programs work to their advantage. Fresh high school graduates will also find that these programs align with their preferences and goals. Every student enrolled in these online degree programs is well-advised to enjoy the learning process, too.

We considered the following factors in choosing the 40 featured schools, too:

  • The college or university must have national or regional accreditation, even programmatic accreditation. This is always a crucial consideration since no accreditation typically means no recognition for the degree.
  • The school must be well-known for its quality instruction, credentialed faculty, and up-to-date learning technology. Such a reputation should be among the community where it’s located as well as the wide community. The latter includes the academe, faculty and administration, and alumni and current students.
  • The college or university’s online degree program offers the flexibility and convenience we expect from online learning. Students should enjoy asynchronous delivery or, in the case of synchronous delivery, the opportunity to participate in class activities.

To learn more about our selection process, see our Methodology page.

The beauty of a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts is the wide variety of careers that it opens up, from the arts to world religions! Jobs for liberal arts majors could include:

  • working as a journalist or professor,
  • assisting business growth,
  • getting involved in politics,
  • curating a museum,
  • or marketing products.

Students strengthen their soft yet strategic skills, including effective communication, sound decision-making, and efficient problem-solving. Employers also find the combination of generalized knowledge and soft skills desirable.

Liberal arts programs are among the easiest because of their more generalist focus and more flexibility in choosing a program of study. Students take general education courses in the first two years before studying specific courses, such as:

  • Western civilization,
  • American literature,
  • and women’s studies.

Math and science courses are included in the curriculum, but these are basic to intermediate levels, not the most difficult advanced levels.

education

Earning a bachelor’s degree in education will open opportunities as a preschool or kindergarten teacher, a teacher in elementary, middle school, or high school, or a special education teacher. Many also become employees in or owners of daycare centers and other similar establishments.

Getting into a good program and getting good grades is fairly easy, too! Students are more likely to enjoy the creative activities, general education courses, and generalist approach in their programs. Their grades are likely to be on the higher end, too, in comparison with science-heavy programs.

But there’s also a certain level of rigor involved! Students have to spend at least one semester working as full-time teacher for free and take up double majors. Upon graduation, there are competitive licensure exams and requirements that must be fulfilled before getting a certified teacher license.

CREATIVE WRITING

creative writing

Individuals with a knack for writing fiction and non-fiction works or who want to pursue a career as an author, journalist, or web content writer will benefit from a bachelor’s degree in creative writing.

Keep in mind that while students are required to read literary works in several genres, their goal isn’t to analyze the text. Instead, they learn to apply the styles and techniques to their literary works.

Creativity and originality are required, and students must be prepared for constructive criticism and feedback from their instructors and peers. There’s less focus on works of literature in many programs and more focus on developing marketable writing skills suitable for work as editors, advertising executives, and freelance writers.

COMPUTER SCIENCE

computer science degree programs

Computer science continues to be one of the most popular online degrees and one of the quickest to complete from the comfort of one’s own home. Math lovers will find computer science as easy as pie! The degree is similar to, but not identical to, a degree in information technology because IT classes also look at the business side of computer needs.

But for those who persevere and who have the passion for it, a degree in computer science can mean doors of career opportunities opening up. These include:

FAQs

What are the benefits of attending a bachelor’s program?

Many well-paying jobs in the modern economy require a bachelor’s degree, including nursing, banking, and information technology. Even in jobs where a bachelor’s degree isn’t a must-have requirement, hiring managers and employers prefer applicants with a college degree.

Of course, there are occupations and professions where an associate degree is sufficient. But a bachelor’s degree will likely result in higher earning potential and better quality of life. Indeed, numerous financial and non-financial benefits are offered for holders of bachelor’s degrees to enjoy more likely than those who don’t!

  • Higher income opportunities
  • Better employment benefits
  • Greater interest by your employer in furthering your education
  • More career options
  • Job security
  • Personal development
  • Job satisfaction and happiness
  • Benefits for your family including better quality of life, insurance, and food security

However, a bachelor’s degree doesn’t guarantee immediate or steady employment, but it’s a definite advantage. According to the recent Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data, people with bachelor’s degrees earn 64% more weekly income on average than those with only a high school diploma. The former’s unemployment rate is also half at 2.2% than the latter at 4.1%.

What are the types of bachelor’s degrees?

There are three most common types, namely:

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA)

Students enrolled in a BA program have a more generalized focus and have fewer core or concentration courses. Their program allows them more customization options for their coursework in line with their career goals.

The BA programs tend to be in the creative arts, such as communications, English and English literature, and modern languages.

  • Bachelor of Science (BS)

Students have a more intensive and comprehensive understanding of their specific concentration, thus less exploring the liberal arts or general education. Their programs are more career-focused, with an emphasis on the acquisition of practical skills for the workplace.

The BS programs are science-based, including computer science, nursing, chemical engineering, economics, and business.

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)

Students prepare to become professionals in their specific arts, such as dancing and singing, acting, and painting, among others. Their studies are then geared more toward career-specific skills than general studies.

What’s the cost of getting a bachelor’s degree?

The total cost of attendance varies from college to college and on your residency status, scholarships, and grants. Keep in mind that sticker fees, including tuition and fees, room and board, loan fees, books and supplies, and personal expenses, are different from what you will pay.

You must factor in scholarships, grants, and other financial aid to reduce the sticker fees. You will be surprised that prestigious universities, such as Harvard University, have significantly lower costs, or net price, than their sticker fees.

According to US News, the average tuition and fees at ranked colleges for the 2021-2022 academic year were:

  • Private – $38,185
  • Public, out-of-state – $22,698
  • Public, in-state – $10,338
What’s the average time for completion?

A full-time bachelor’s degree typically takes four years to complete. Nonetheless, this undergraduate program can be completed in three years through an accelerated program or in as long as six years. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), it takes an average of 52 months for American students to complete a program.

And then there’s the accelerated path where you can get your degree in 2-3 years. You may have earned college credits, such as an associate degree, which can be transferred to a bachelor’s degree. You may also have gained college-level credits through professional experience, military service, and AP, CLEP, and DANTES Credit.

How can you choose the right bachelor’s degree program?

Let’s first ask: Will you benefit from a bachelor’s degree? Yes, you will if you:

  • Have first-hand knowledge that your current or future career requires it
  • Know that it is a requirement for a graduate degree, such as in medicine and law
  • Have earned either an associate degree or 60 semester credits, and you want to pursue higher education

If you are pursuing a bachelor’s degree, ask yourself these questions:

  • Will the degree meet your professional goals and fit your circumstances, including finances?
  • Will there be financial aid options that you can qualify for?
  • Will you be able to enter the program with your current credentials, including GPA and standardized scores?
  • Will you have a choice in terms of scheduling your courses and classes?

You must be careful in choosing a degree program and college because of the time, effort, and money involved. If you can stick to one major, then that would be to your advantage, for example.
